Tea with Meredith Origin Story

Hello, I am Meredith, the face behind Tea with Meredith. As a registered dietitian, my interest in Afternoon Tea was sparked during a trip to London in 1997. In my childhood, the tea cup collection proudly displayed by my mother and Great Aunt in our home left a lasting impression. I fondly remember the gatherings in my Great Aunt Anna's Brooklyn apartment kitchen, where tea, coffee, and delicious cakes were enjoyed amidst lively conversations. This tradition deeply influenced my love for afternoon tea, which flourished during my time in Princeton, NJ, where I stumbled upon a tea salon serving delightful lavender scones.

Living near Alice's Tea Cup in NYC, I would often stop by after work to sample their scones, clotted cream, and tea. While not the healthiest choice, as I was training for triathlons at the time, I managed to burn off those indulgences.

Recently, tea has evolved into a social passion, blending tea and classical music with both new and old friends. Regular visits to tearooms made me realize the absence of one within 40 miles of my hometown in Westchester, NY, prompting me to establish Tea with Meredith.

Being a registered dietitian and trained chef, my goal has always been to merge health with the tradition of afternoon tea. With a background in running a personal chef business and conducting cooking classes, I cater to individuals with allergies and special dietary needs. Having experienced allergies myself, I understand the challenge of feeling left out when dining out, which is why I make it a point to accommodate my guests' dietary restrictions.

Despite the decadent offerings at tea gatherings, I emphasize the importance of portion control. In a traditional afternoon tea setting, small portion sizes are key, as the purpose is to provide a light snack before dinner. At Tea with Meredith, we now offer nutritional counseling services on our website. Alongside pop-up teas and private tea parties, clients can opt for individual counseling sessions or enroll in a 3-month program featuring weekly sessions.
